Information for full-time students of undergraduate studies, Master’s studies and uniform Master’s studies.

  1. Students of full-time studies at the University of Wrocław are obliged to complete a foreign language course in a chosen language and to pass an exam.

    • The chosen language becomes obligatory:
      • for undergraduate studies (3 years) at level B2 II
      • for Master’s studies (2 years) at level B2+
      • for uniform Master’s studies (5 years) at level B2+
  2. Students are entitled to the following hour limit:

    • for undergraduate studies - 180 hours
    • for Master’s studies - 60 hours
    • for uniform Master’s studies – 240 hours
  3. Courses are taught by teachers of the Foreign Language Centre (FLC) (www.spnjo.uni.wroc.pl). The FLC offers courses in the following modern languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Russian and Italian.

  4. The rules of foreign language teaching are consistent with the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning. Detailed information concerning the curriculum and the requirements at particular levels can be found on our site: www.spnjo.uni.wroc.pl

  5. It is recommended for students to choose the foreign language that they are the most proficient at. That is because the obligatory foreign language course starts at level B1.

  6. Students are obliged to continue the course in the language they have chosen. It is not possible to switch languages during the course of studies.

  7. In order to identify the language level and skills, students are obliged to take a placement test during their adaptation days:

    • If a student qualifies lower than the B1 starting level, it is expected that the student will meet the requirements on his/her own.
    • If a student qualifies higher than B1 (for example: B2 I or B2 II), he/she starts the course at the level which is consistent with the test result.
    • If a student qualifies higher than C1I, he/she does not have to join the course but is obliged to pass the final exam at the required level (B2 II).
  8. For postgraduate students courses are conducted at level B2+, which introduces elements of faculty-specific terminology and academic language (students do not take the placement test).

  9. Students of uniform Master's studies, after passing the exam at level B2 II , are required to continue the chosen language at level B2+ .

  10. A student may be exempt from participating in the language courses and the final exam if he/she holds one of the certificates enlisted on the website of the Foreign Language Centre www.spnjo.uni.wroc.pl.

  11. A student may be exempt from participating in the language courses and the final exam if he/she passed the exam while studying in another department at the University of Wrocław or passed the exam at level B2 at a different University (the grade can be approved provided that the programme was being carried out according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning).

  12. A student who successfully completed level B1 (B2) while studying in another department at the University of Wrocław may continue at levels B2 I (B2 II) without taking the placement test.

  13. The remaining hours from the limit can be used to study another language optionally.

  14. Students exempt from participating in the language courses are entitled to the hours within the limit. Students can optionally attend language courses in another language within the organisational capacity of the Foreign Language Centre.
